f3@r t3h wr@+h!!!

Truthfully speaking, these few days had been nothing but quiet. It has been so quiet until there was practically nothing worth taking note of. Or rather, i was simply lazy to blog. lOl. Anyway, its honestly a rather quiet week, compared to the first few weeks of school. The only thing i remembered is... i NEVER GOT INTO DEAN'S LIST!!! =(( I went to check the webby and i found out i never got in. To melvin, stop dreaming man, you think writing "DEAN'S LIST!!" on a piece of paper will get you into Dean's List ar? Dream on lar you!!! |\|()()|3 !!! HAHA! You must be fuming after reading this, heh! Just kidding larz, all the best to you in your dream. =)

Its actually against my principle to blog when i really have nothing to blog about. And i mean totally nothing to talk about. No topics, no rumors, no gossips or whatsoever. Nothing, nought, zero, blank, nothingness, null, oblivion. Absolutely has no idea what to blog about.

Ok, to start it off, let me copy and paste a joke Alywn has told me. Let me retrieve it from my brain first. Gotta start Windows first.

*Open the picture in another window to view*

Hooray~! Finally got Windows to start. So here is the joke, or rather, riddle.

Which fairytale character is the most flat-chested?

Trust me, it will take a zillion ounce of effort to be able to get the correct answer. I did not get the answer on the first try, neither on the second try. Finally...

I gave up. Oh well. And yes, i got the answer now. So as not to spoil the fun, anyone who is interested can leave your answer in the comment and i will reveal it in the next post, provided i remembered.

And as i mentioned earlier, i really have nothing to blog about, other than the fact i am giving tuition tomorrow and the day after. It also means that i am going to sleep soon so as to conserve enough energy to give my best to my students. As a very thoughtful, caring, kind, gentlemanly, witty, generous, humorous and handsome teacher, i must do my utmost best to keep myself in tip-top condition so as to give my students the best out of me.

Below is a conversation of me and melvin at this very point.

无尽的爱 - 刘明峰

无尽的爱
词曲:刘明峰
编曲:Jerry C

as promised... 9-5 review

Haha, ok, as if anyone would want to know what happened at 9-5 other than those living in hall 9. 9-5 is an event that was supposedly held every year around this time. It was meant to be a gathering for people in hall 9 amidst the busy semester. As the name suggested, the whole trip lasted from 9 to 5. To be exact, its 9pm to 5am. Lol. It was a very fun experience, although it would be much better if the old hall-niners were still around.

This year, 9-5 goes like this. We set off from hall 9 canteen where 2 chartered buses will bring us to our designated destination. Our first stop is Geylang! Haha, just this place will stir up a lot of imagination among many people. Indeed, we went to Geylang, not for any other reasons, but for the food there~! When we are there, we would play a game "十字路口". For those peeps who have been watching taiwan variety shows in their past-time like me would need no explanation. For the benefit of the doubt, i would briefly explain what the game is all about. We were divided into groups, where a food would be introduced to us. Everyone would be given the same food name to start with and each team would have to finish the food before moving on. After finishing a dish, the group would have to think of the next food that has its first chinese character that is similar to the last chinese character of the last dish. This will continue until a group can link to the last dish, which was "豆浆油条". Of course, the "food chain" has to be at least 6 dishes-long. The team which can link to the last dish will win. Of course, the winner will walk off with a prize money of...................... $30. Oh well, its a hall activity, what do you expect? Haha! Budget K! Freshies out there stop whining!! =P

After the game, we went to settlers cafe to have a round of bored games wit... i mean board games with your own group. The board games there were fun, and also must thanks the people who were present for this event for making it a success. After a couple of hours, we proceeded to the dessert shop nearby and ordered some food. The food there was not really worth it, if you consider the pricey cost tags that came along with the food.

Still, we had fun and i thought that this event was very successful and well-organised. The one which was held last year was nothing compared to this one. Last year we ended with a stupid bowling session at marina bay. If only those old hall-niners were here to experience our new version of 9-5! Haha! Lucky for me, i still have a bunch of nice and sporting freshies with me to enjoy this great event. Thumbs up for the organisers who are also my good hall 9 friends! If only the events last year were that great, i would be more active you know!!! Haha! Sux to them, r0xXx0r to us! =P

Thanks to:

Matthew - Despite being sick (i also sick lor that day!!! till now still feverish, body aching, haizk!), he still went for the event and become our dear guide~~ Always doing his best to make things happen! O-U-T T-O I-M-P-R-E-S-S! YAY!

Hansel - Why put him in the first few of the list neh? Because he is senior. Thats all. LOL! Just kidding wor~ Hansel is always very supportive and no doubt has his way of singing. Without his entertainment and constant talking, it would be BORINGGGG. Oh yar, before i forget, he took a cRaZy photo during the 9-5... Damn it. WAH LAO! Don't anyhow speculate liao!!!

Melvin - One of the freshie that i am closer to wor. He always respond to my stupid entertaining tricks, so much thanks him alot. LOL! Without him, i cannot be so comfortable with my crapping. Other than that, he got no much uses... LOL! Just kidding wor. I know you will read my blog 1, so cannot anyhow say. Fun to have him around, but i hope you don't turn gay because of me k? LOL!

Joanne - For being the only girl present. Whats wrong sia. Our whole OG only she went lor. She was the leader and claimed all the credits. KUDOs to her lor. lOl. Don't ask me whats the meaning of KUDOs, cause i forgot liao also. Sporting and talk a lot. Thanks to her talkative nature, she kept quite a few of us occupied so that we won't fall asleep in the middle of the night.

Wei Jian - For always aiming me and finding faults lor. Still can say what? LOL

Song Hui - For keep asking people to go and die and want to slap me lor.

Albert - For actively engaging in the activities! Haha! I also know languages in Taiwan and China very well right? =P

Martin - For waiting so long to put a card when playing the animal game, LOL

I think thats all. I still got a lab tomorrow and i just realised it 2 hours ago. What is more amazing is that my log book is totally empty. Yay~! lOl! Ok, goodnight everyone~ Dream of me while i do my lab~~ =(

an "exciting" life ahead?

Wow. Today was like somehow cool. Why do i say so? Anyone heard of URECA? URECA stands for Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus. The opportunity of being a researcher is given to students with good academic grades. Students who are selected are able to take up one of the project that promises up to $4,000 per year with the input of 400 hours. So, basically, its doing research as your part-time job with a pay rate of $10/hr. But here is the catch. It is considered a MODULE! Yup, 3 AUs that is. However, an S/U option will be available. Phew.

I went for the URECA talk this afternoon and had some surprising findings. Only 5 local students from computer engineering managed to got onto the list. Yup. That was what my friend saw on the list. But in actual fact, we did not managed to find anyone who is a local computer engineer other than both of us. For computer science, just local students, we saw a whooping 5 of them attending the talk. I was like, "WtF?". Come on, the number of students in computer engineering are far more than the number of computer science students. I got 4.5 overall GPA and was, if my friend was not wrong, 1 of the 5 selected for this talk, where we only felt the presence of 2 in fact. 2 out of 400, and there are already 5 local computer science students who were present. They got like a batch of less than a 100 students in their course? Come on, whoever says that computer engineering is easy and/or claims that the grade in computer science isn't as easily available as people said, i would say, SCREW YOU! Damn it, just seeing the numbers i really felt that this whole GPA thing is dumb. Computer science people are really enjoying themselves with the grades with a bit of effort and we computer engineers are alway running out of time and most of my friends are like struggling like MaDnEsS to even achieve a decent grade.

I would be very lonely if not for one of my friend being there. I could not find another local student from computer engineering in Nanyang Auditorium that i could talk to. Such a person simply did not exist.

After attending the talk which lasted for around 3 and a half hours with a tea break in between, i was quite tempted to take up the project despite knowing the fact that it would be at the expense of my free time. The DSO SOAR scholarship will be available in year 3 and the criteria is to get a 4.0 GPA at the time of application. For every year sponsored, i would have to dedicate 1 year of my life to DSO in return. From what i heard from my friend, the starting pay that DSO is offering now is $3.5k. Hearing from my other friends how their relatives got $2.6k-$3k for their starting pay as being high, $3.5k is definitely something worth more than a thought or two. But it would also means that i have to be ready for research works and most probably spend all my life researching. Oh well, there is still something less than a year for me to consider the scholarship, and i think by then, i would have come up with a firm decision on what i would like to be after my university life. I am not even sure if i can maintain my academic result for this year with the knowledge of the immense workload compared to last year. Hopefully everything will turn out fine and i could stay being a 4 pointer at least by the end of year 2. After saying that, i really have to start taking my modules seriously, with the realization that what i did in the last academic year would simply not be enough to get me the grades i want this year.

I am going for the 9-5 hall activity now. Hopefully it would be interesting so that i have at least something to write about when i come back. Ciao~! =)

no time lorrrrrr!!!

Haizk, very sian lor. Recently got so many things going on until i got no time wor. Just alone the school work is enough to kill a normal person.

Monday - 8.30am to 6.30pm
Tuesday - 9.30am to 9.00pm
Wednesday - 8.30am to 11.30am
Thursday - 11.30am to 6.30pm
Friday - 9.30am to 12.30pm

It might seem alright if you just look at it this way, but trust me, its damn taxing. It was nothing compared to my previous semester. On Monday, just the programming lab was able to sap the remaining of my energy at 1.30pm. I could almost do nothing after i came back. On Tuesday, i believe it is self-explanatory. Wednesday is my only so called "free" day in the whole week, but i had to give tuition in the evening. Sigh. Friday, the end of the studying week, but i have to prepare my labs and tutorials for the next week. Hmmmm... time? Haiya, forget it. Whine also like that, won't change anything. I guess i just have to be more efficient. Now very busy with hall activities (participating not organizing, heh! I am a freeloader!!! =P) and my lab assignments. So sorry for those who msned me or talked to me, sometimes i did not reply and might give a wrong impression that i am being unfriendly, haha! Sorry wor~ i hope things will turn for the better after next week! =))

Satisfied Customer

Once upon a time, there were 3 bears living together in a hut. One day, little Zhongming and his good friend were on the way to school and saw a hut from far away. Out of curiosity, they went towards the hut with an intention to take a look. Little Zhongming took a peep by the window and saw MANY GOODIES inside. He quickly signalled his friend and rushed into the hut.

The floor was filled with GOODIES. GOODIES filled the floor. The floor ain't empty. Emptiness did not fill the floor. Little Zhongming and his friend filled their bags with lots and lots of goodies and did not give up the chance to hand-carry some of them away.

So, little Zhongming and his friend lived happily ever after.

MORAL OF THE STORY : Every fairytale should end with "X and Y lived happily ever after" to be a popular story.

Geben 8 & blk supperrrrrr

There were 2 major events today. First was Geben 8. If you are wondering what is Geben 8, it is a goodie giveaway for students in computer engineering and computer science. Goodies!!! They are necessary to keep me awake for that particular day! haha! It isn't a crime for a poor guy to be cheap ok!

First we have to register at the booth with our matriculation card. It was much more organized than the business orientation, where i heard that the business side ran out of goodie bags. I got 1 though. Heh! =P Anyway, back to the COMPUTER ENGINEERING side. After registering, we received a folder and some other stuff inside. Inside there were lecture pad, ruler, sticky pad, pen, highlighter and some not so useful leaflets. The folder was godsent as i was looking for 1 from the goodies and finally managed to get my HANDSSS on one today. =) After that we had to proceed on for a lucky draw. There were quite a few prizes, some were decent, top prize was great and the rest was like... uh... what do you think of can drinks compared to a T-shirt? lOl. My friend went first and got a T-shirt. I was like, "OMGGGGGGG! NICE DRAW!" I wasn't about to give up and i was feeling lucky recently after picking up a total sum of $12 from the floor on 2 occasions. And indeed, i drew a T-shirt too! Mine had a slightly better quality though, HEH! Too bad yuenloong!!! =P The other friend of mine was less lucky and got a typical water bottle. But he bargained for a T-shirt later on and got it. Duh. Whatever, lOl! We then proceeded to collect our food, which included 1 pizza and 2 curry puffs. Not very tasty but were able to fill half of the stomach. Enjoyed it nevertheless. What can i say when there was free folder, free food and free T-shirt!!! Nothing beats a truckload of useful goodies! =))

Block supperrrrr. Actually it was just an excuse to drench the freshies and to get ourselves wet during the "block war" that followed shortly. I still remembered i was not agreeable on the "water treatment" that we got for going down to the supper. I found it meaningless and childish. lOl. I guessed it was because i knew very little people in the hall as that was only the 2nd week in hall at that point of time. So it was as if we were being played out and of course i did not took part in the "block war" that followed. This time round, i got myself in the "block war" and it was not bad an experience. Quite some fun, although i must say it got boring after a little while. Still, it was this kind of things that pull us closer to each other. Maybe not closer, but at least increases our exposures to each other. It would be awful if few people knew of your existence in hall. Maybe alot of freshies had the same thoughts as i had 1 year ago, but when they met more friends and developed deeper bonds, they would be glad that these events were still around as these were the only few chances everyone had to interact with each other. School is going to get serious from now on and i would choose to believe everyone would be busy by then. Cherish the times together while we can, reach out for the happiness before it fades away.

Its 3am now and little Zhongming is tired. Had been playing game for the past few hours and was totally unproductive today. Hopefully tomorrow will be a fruitful day for little Zhongming and all the best to his plan for his studies!

"Thank you Zan for your encouragement!"

"Welcome Zhongming! Hope you do well this semester!"

"You too Zan! We shall get our grades for the upcoming exam!"

"Yea Zhongming! We shall rule the exam and get ready for Christmas!"

"Yarrrr!!!! Advanced Merry Xmas to you Zan!!!"

"A million thanks! Let me see... An advanced HAPPY NEW YEAR to you Zhongming!!!"

"WoW!!! Thanks alot Zan! Lotsa love!"

"MUACKZ! Sweet dream Zhongming!"

K.I.S.S.

Okay, today the theme is to keep this post short as mentioned in the title.

Keep It Short & Sweet

Things i have done today that i felt good

1) Signed up as member of investment club for the sake of the goodie bag

2) Solved the International Chess puzzle at their stall and got myself a much needed folder

3) Diarrhoea ended

4) Played the "fold and throw your airplane" game at the booth near LWM library and devised a good strategy to get good prizes which was later adopted by others *felt so good when someone discussed, "see how he did it? crumple the...". Satisfied E-G-O.*

5) Went for supper with my hall mates

6) Crapped a lot with my few good friends (Mainly the Ms, Melvin, Matthew. I got M also! Ming. Ok, cut the crap.)

The reason for the K.I.S.S. theme today is because... I screwed up my tutorials which would be due tomorrow or rather 7 hours from now. Great. I have to redo them now as i totally misinterpreted the lousy questions and it will take me like... 1+++ hour? GREAT. So... get it? Back to tutorial. Period.

train of thoughts

Ahhh... Finally, a new semester has started. A brand new "year" in NTU and the real challenges are just about to unfold. Its year two for me and many people said that, from their experiences, year 2 would be the most taxing and tedious year for engineers. How true is this, it can only be validated by us ourselves.

I still remembered everyone telling me how difficult studies would be in university and there would be not enough time. "Computering engineering ah? Die liao lar you. Good luck hor." This never fails to be the unanimous reply given by everyone that i had told about my choice of course. Maybe i inherited this trait from my mum, i was never too ready to believe in what the majority said. I was in fact very trusting in friends that i felt close to, but if i was very confident about the credibility of a certain issue, i would still do my best to prove them wrong. In the end, i was able to defy all odds and got a result of my own expectation and also had a lot of fun during my first year in university.

I must say that i did not get my grades the HARD way, as i was never a supporter of pure MUGGING. Yup, it might sound ridiculous and unbelievable from someone who got his grades, as most of the people who claimed to be like me always hid the truth that they MUG till the cows come home. Even for me, i was very skeptical when people boast about how they get their grades WITHOUT putting in much effort. It must be either i am crazy or i need a new pair of spectacles. Somehow, i could always see those people studying away as if trying to achieve enlightenment and had no time for anything else. Luckily for most of us (you know who you are~! my ex-soccer kakhis, lan-gamers, etc etc etc~~), university is a brand new start and a very different one. For all my good friends out there, fret not, there is always hope somewhere out there.

Many of my friends kept asking me, "WAH, how you get the grades one? Teach leh." Honestly, i have told quite a few of them what and how i did it. Maybe it isn't convincing enough, but it was really the truth that i was telling. At that point of time, if you had look into my eyes, you could see the sincerity and you must know that i was speaking the undeniable truth. I do tell lies at times, but those are mostly for entertainment values. One thing i hate about telling lies is that, i have to use a few more lies to cover up for the first one and soon i will be caught in a vicious cycle. Until i could master how to keep my life full of lies without being discovered, i would not attempt to tell too many lies in the meantime. Ok, so howwwww the hell did Zhongming got his grades in university?

Lets recall the history of Zhongming. If you had known Zhongming long enough, Zhongming got top in class for 5 STRAIGHT YEARS in primary school. From P1-P5, there was nothing but top in his life. That was thanks to the intense caning from his mum. Finally when he reached P6, he decided that its time he should be responsible for his own studies instead of being "pampered" by the cane... i mean his mum. *Crapz, he just wanted to be exempted from the caning so he gave such a lame excuse to his mum*. His mum decided that he was big enough to make his own decision and accepted his proposal. Guess what, Zhongming got a 2nd in P6. His FIRST 2nd in his whole life. Wow, he still got a FIRST anyway, despite being 2nd in class. Somehow, his mother was not really bothered by the 2nd and so Zhongming got his "freedom" after that.

He then went on to ZhongHua Secondary School. He was a very well-known character in ZhongHua. If you had been with him in the same school for 2 years and did not know him, something must be wrong with you. Why was he WELL-KNOWN? He participated in quite a few maths competition and had good results for each of them. He was often seen on stage to collect prizes. If you think that could make him well-known, you're wrong. Actually, the larger factor was because, he spent not less than half of his secondary school life enjoying detention in school. Oh great. He was always late for school and had to serve detention after school. He had to bring his own table and chair, lift them ALL THE WAY from the classroom to the corridor along the general office. Everyone would see him on the way back home. It was the best way to get famous at that time. He would play soccer almost everyday, even after his detention. He knew all the hiding places for soccer balls in school and he never really had to buy a soccer ball in the first place. His studies was not considered very good, and he even got a 19 (L1R5) for his prelim. He ended up in YJC for the first 3 months, but lucky enough, he achieved a 10 points (RAW. NO cut-off OK! Cos the stupid badminton teacher decided not to give him any CCA points because he forgot to let him sign the paper) to land himself a place in NYJC.

NYJC, a very nice place with many nicely colored containers. Yup, metal containers acting as classrooms. It was given the best design award at that time Zhongming was enrolled. Zhongming was in the same class as his 2 close friends in NYJC. They were so good friends to the point that they were always getting the bottom 3 results for most of the test (other than GP). Try recalling your JC times, how your teachers loved to announce the results of the test. They would rearrange the test scripts with the highest score on top and the LOWEST at the bottom. Zhongming and his 2 close friends alway had to wait damn long before they could even smell their scripts. But that did not stop them from having fun. They would still play soccer, go for lan-gaming sessions almost everyday.

Zhongming is now finally in university. After some tough trainings in army, Zhongming has grown up quite a lot and is becoming more sensible. Responsibility is a must in his life now. Zhongming knew that he had to get good grades in order to achieve his dream. He had an extra-ordinary dream unlike others. He wanted to be famous in whatever he was doing. He wanted to earn the most money on Earth. Most importantly, he just wanted a good life for his family. He came from a poor family and a broken one. He fought on strongly and never had doubts in himself. He believes that he was on the way to achieving his dream... If you are interested to know the secret, you can do so by buying "101 ways to A+" at a special price of $19.95!

Ok, cut the crap. Everything said was true and i am now truly sharing what i think would work in order to achieve a good grade. Friends who had kept in contact with me during my university life should know that i spent very little time studying, especially during the exam periods. If you do not believe, you can ask around. I spent most of my time watching animes, variety shows, comedies, playing games. What i want to prove is that, you do not have to spend a certain amount of time to get a certain grade. People who tell you that you have to work damn hard to get good grades in uni is definitely doing it the wrong way. I might be wrong for all i know, as i have only pulled it off for 2 semesters, but i am willing to share it here as a reference to whoever might be interested.

In my opinion, consistent revision is much more efficient in this case. Diminishing return, these are the 2 keywords i would like you all to go find out if you had not known the meaning in the first place before you read on. If you have realised, the first few hours you spent doing anything is always more efficient than every additional hours. For studying, the same theory applies, and in fact, much more strongly. I am not saying that you have to allocate time everyday for revision, and my definition of revision might be different from what you are thinking. To me, revision means to recall things in the lectures on that day and try to understand it. In university, do more understandings and it will really help you a whole damn lot. It would be much easier for your exams. Imagine having 24 hours interval for each paper and if you did not try to understand what was taught to you and instead chose to memerise everything in the span of 24 hours, i would say, good luck. If you could pull it off, fine. But i would rather spend that 24 hours playing games and having a good night sleep. My friend and I could even go for a supper on the night before a paper and we could do as well. To us, studies and entertainment must be balanced. Or rather, in our cases, entertainment MUST be satisfied for studies to be good. Yuenloong, right or not? lOl!! We had little stress during the exam periods and i thought that also played a major role in getting your grades. Having too much stress is a NO-NO and do not think that you are inferior to others. Having the right mindset is important. Be willing to listen to your friends during discussions, be more receptive and less dogmatic. Always listen to others with a thinking that they are there to help you and you would be able to learn much in the process.

Thats about it and there is no HARDCORE MUGGING involved in my strategy or whatever you called it. Please take this only as a reference as this might not necessary applies to everybody and the owner of this strategy is still in the midst of experimenting.

Its really late now and i have to hit the bed before the sun rises. Goodnight~
