Word of the month : Imbecile

Hi peeps! Just another thing that came across my mind. PLEASE do not abuse the word "idiot", especially when using it on someone. It is RUDE and INSENSITIVE to use it when you are not fully aware of the meaning behind it.

According to www.dictionary.com, idiot has the following meaning:

A person of the lowest order in a former classification of mental retardation, having a mental age of less than three years old and an intelligence quotient under 25.

A person of profound mental retardation having a mental age below three years and generally being unable to learn connected speech or guard against common dangers.

Damn! Would you call someone who quarreled or fought with you an "idiot" just out of pure spite? You KNOW that it is UNTRUE! If he/she is capable of scolding or picking a fight with you, he/she can't have an IQ of less than 25 right?

So... let me introduce a new word to you people out there!

a person of the second order in a former classification of mental retardation, above the level of idiocy, having a mental age of seven or eight years and an intelligence quotient of 25 to 50.

A person of moderate to severe mental retardation having a mental age of from three to seven years and generally being capable of some degree of communication and performance of simple tasks under supervision.

Eureka! Isn't this the word that you have always wanted to express but just did not know of its existence!? This word is more suiting as it clearly indicates that the person is CAPABLE of SOME DEGREE of COMMUNICATION. So people, use words wisely and make the world a better place and let's hope there will be ZERO misunderstanding all over the world in the near future!
